South Molton is now the flourishing centre of the arts and antiques trades but the carved rams heads on the 18th century Guildhall bears reference to what has been the backbone of the towns economy for so many years. The town"s association with sheep is still very much evident in the twice weekly Livestock Markets and the Annual Sheep Fair held in August.
The Guildhall is home to the pannier market, where in the past farmers and traders sold their products from panniers, these have of course now been replace with tables but it is still possible to purchase homemade cakes, bread, jams, locally produced cheeses, eggs and flowers. |
